It was a pleasure to join leaders from government, sport, and business to celebrate Canada’s role in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the exciting opportunities this global event will bring to communities across the country.

As Canada prepares the world, the tournament represents more than a sporting event as it is an exciting opportunity to showcase our vibrant communities, strengthen local economies, and inspire the next generation of athletes and fans. Bringing people together through sport helps build connections, celebrate diversity, and create lasting community pride.

As Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism, I was especially pleased to recognize the important role that major international events play in supporting local businesses, attracting visitors, and creating economic opportunities for communities across Canada. Events like the FIFA World Cup provide a platform to highlight Canadian innovation, hospitality, and the entrepreneurs and tourism operators who help make our communities thrive.

It was also wonderful to celebrate alongside partners from Visa, FIFA Canada, Canada Soccer, and the many organizations and individuals working to make this historic tournament a success. Thank you to everyone involved for helping showcase the power of sport to bring people together and create lasting opportunities for communities across the country.
