It was an honour to join DAWN Canada for the 2026 Hummingbird Awards and celebrate the individuals and organizations whose leadership is helping build a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable Canada.

The Hummingbird Awards recognize those who are advancing disability justice, gender equality, and accessibility through their advocacy, innovation, and commitment to creating meaningful change. Their work reminds us that building an inclusive society requires listening to lived experiences, removing barriers, and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in their communities.

As Minister for Women and Gender Equality, I was proud to recognize the important contributions of advocates and organizations who continue to champion the rights of women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities. Their efforts are helping create communities where inclusion is not simply an aspiration, but a reality.

Thank you to DAWN Canada, this year's award recipients, and everyone working to advance accessibility and equality across our country. Your dedication continues to inspire positive change and helps build a Canada where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered.
