Celebrating PEI’s Maritime Heritage
It was a pleasure to visit the Wood Islands Lighthouse on Prince Edward Island with MP Kent MacDonald and learn more about the history and maritime traditions that have shaped the region for generations.
Built in 1876, the lighthouse is an important local landmark and today serves as an interactive museum highlighting Island life, fishing, lighthouses, and the rich maritime heritage of eastern PEI.
As Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism, I am always inspired by the communities and organizations that preserve Canada’s history while creating meaningful experiences for visitors. Heritage attractions like the Wood Islands Lighthouse help support local tourism, strengthen community pride, and give visitors a deeper appreciation of the places they explore.
Thank you to MP Kent MacDonald and everyone who helped welcome us and share the story of this remarkable landmark.
