Supporting Youth Sports and Community Growth in Mississauga
It was a pleasure to visit the North Mississauga Soccer Club (NMSC) at Churchill Meadows Sports Park with MP Iqra Khalid and spend time with the athletes, coaches, families, and volunteers who help make community sports such an important part of life in Mississauga.
From speaking with young players to seeing the energy and dedication on the field, the visit was a great reminder of how sports bring people together, build confidence in young people, and create a strong sense of community. Organizations like the NMSC continue to make a meaningful difference by giving youth opportunities to grow both on and off the field.
I was also pleased to discuss our government’s recent investment in Canada’s sport system through the 2026 Spring Economic Statement, which includes a historic $775 million investment over five years to strengthen sports across the country. This includes $50 million dedicated to bringing more world-class sporting events to Canada, alongside the investment to support grassroots participation, community sport infrastructure, and athlete development.
With major international events such as the FIFA World Cup approaching, these investments will help communities like Mississauga continue supporting youth athletes while also creating new opportunities for local tourism, economic growth, and community engagement. More importantly, they help ensure that young people have access to safe, welcoming, and high-quality spaces where they can learn, grow, and succeed through sports.
Thank you to the NMSC and everyone who welcomed us so warmly. It was so wonderful to see the passion and community spirit that continues to make Mississauga-Streetsville such a vibrant place to live.
