In Moncton, I was honoured to meet with my provincial and territorial counterparts for the 44th Annual Meeting of Ministers Responsible for the Status of Women. Coming together from across the country gave us an important opportunity to listen, share experiences, and strengthen our collective work to advance equality and create safer communities for women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

During the meeting, we heard directly about the realities people continue to face, from economic insecurity and caregiving challenges to gender-based violence. These conversations are an important reminder that behind every policy and program are real people, families, and communities who deserve to feel safe, supported, and able to build a better future.

I was also proud to announce $607.4 million over four years to advance the next phase of the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence. Beginning in 2027–28, this renewed investment will help provinces and territories continue preventing gender-based violence and strengthening the services and supports that victims, survivors, and their families rely on.

Ending gender-based violence requires all of us to work together. I am grateful to my provincial and territorial colleagues, Indigenous partners, advocates, frontline organizations, and survivors whose experiences and leadership continue to guide this work. Together, we are building a safer and more equitable Canada where everyone has the opportunity to live free from violence.
